The Best News I've Had, Ever

OK, that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but I was just signing up (again) for the final year of my MA course, when I noticed this little footnote:

On successful completion of 180 points’ worth of required courses you will be awarded the Master of Arts in Popular Culture, entitling you to use the letters MA (Pop Cult) after your name.

Pop Cult! Could *anything* be cooler than that?

No. That might actually be the coolest thing in the world.

Worth doing the course for the title alone, I reckon.

Oooh. My batchelor's in Media & Cultural Studies.

If I put BA (Cult) after my name, people might think I have my own religion...

Hello nomadic blogger burd, welcome back to Base Camp.

Yes, that is cool.

Does anyone (with a non-Pop Cult qualification) actually use their letters (or their qualification, come to think of it..)?

Tabby - never used qualification or letters, but it's nice to know that it's there if I need it...

(Soembody please reassure me that somebody will one day be interested in a Media and Cultural Studies degree from Nottingham Trent...)

Use the letters? No sir! I'm going to change my entire name. As soon as I get my hands on that mortarboard and scroll, it's goodbye patroclus and hello popcult.

More motivation than that I do not need...

I once wrote out all the letters I am entitled to use after my name and they took up 2 lines in 10 font LOL

But none are as cool as pop cult!

Thats even better than Rimmers BSC (bronze swimming certificate)

I was always impressed by an old teacher of mine having no fewer that 8 series of letters following his name.

I'm sure he would swap them all for Pop Cult though. It is undeniably highly groovy.

In my (albeit limited)experience once you've got one or two sets of letters after your name, you are suddenly entitled to join loads of other institutions/organisations and use their letters too. Who knows where M.A.(Pop Cult) may lead?...(long, echoing silence, possibly involving tumbleweed and due to inability to think of anything amusing to finish with)

Is "echoing silence" a contradiction in terms? Oh bugger - unfunny AND grammatically dubious!

I've always suspected you were a total cult!

Very cool letters. My boyfriend, hainv joined the institute of forensic archaeologists, was very excited about bein Andy X, BSc PIFA. I suggested he should also add the letters GAY. He doesn't talk about it any more.
