Overheard In The Office

'...and when I woke up, I found I was perched on the end of my bed, like Spiderman, staring at a sock on the floor...'

LC, right?

You might think that, Annie - I couldn't possibly comment.

Yes.

This was followed by another colleague saying 'I sent a text to my boyfriend in my sleep, saying 'I am asleep'. I got all the spelling right, too.'

At home, there's no danger of overhearing anything. That's why I have to rely on Jenny Murray, Vanessa Feltz and company if I want to overhear things.

So keep them, coming, P - you're really providing a service here.

I also assumed it was LC.

The irony is that I was staring at the sock because while I was asleep I thought it was a giant spider that had fallen from my bedroom ceiling. But despite the fact that I loathe spiders with such an intensity that I frequently have such nightmares about them, Spiderman is not only my favourite superhero but also my favourite person.

I always wondered why all of New York seemed to think Spider-Man was a villain, despite him clearly being a perfectly well-behaved young man, and decided that the whole story of Spider-Man is being told from the point of view of a deranged Peter Parker, who has really mutated into a monstrous semi-arachnid who stalks the city eating people and firing webs out of his bum, so he's had to make up this heroic version of himself to stop going completely insane from the horror.

I suggested this for the third film, but they didn't get back to me.

I read a similar sort of explanation once for Camus's L'Étranger.

Apparently the fact that it lapses into the dramatic present halfway through is a dead giveaway. (Although it's not quite so easy to tell that with a film, obviously.)

It'd be worse ending up like Batman. Probably.

This image makes me think of a shot from the well known film I can't remember the name of starring an actor I can't remember the name of.

The one about a longterm prisoner in a US jail who went mad. Birdy?

Yes, Birdy, with Matthew Modine, which appears in fact not to be about prisoners at all. But it still reminds me of that. Yes.

I like birdies especially WOLS.
