INT. CASTLE FANGSKULL* - DAY
The lovely Mr BC and I are watching the 'Clubbing' episode of Spaced.
Mr BC: When you were a raver, did you have a clubbing name?
ME: Don't be ridiculous, of course I never...oh wait, I did actually.
Mr BC: What was it?
ME: 'Technopup'.
Mr BC: Technopup. What does that mean?
ME: I have absolutely no idea.
* The response I received upon asking Mr BC if his flat has a name.

I missed the entire Rave cultural event. Did you all have CB radio, then?
Not that I recall, Arabella, although we did fence off part of the garden and put up a sign announcing it as a 'Tactikal Tekno Zone'.
I love that episode. I was never any good at staying up late, so I have never properly Raved, but my SO has (can I just say that I need a new word for my SO? I hate 'husband', 'boy' sounds insulting, 'man' sounds Cosmo Girl, and 'thang'.. maybe 'thang.' Okay, I rewrite this.) My thang has Raved a bit (as opposed to raving a bit -- he really has quite an even temper), and I find it very revealing that he refuses to divulge a clubbing name. I can only guess, and my guesses are doutless not so colorful as reality.
Technopup, eh. I think Mr BC should be a little worried about that one, actually...
When exactly was Rave? I think I must be too old or was busy being the mother of all mothers... I suppose Technopup is better than Technopussy?
To Valerie, that's why I call mine my Ruf. It covers so many things... :)
Valerie: 'My thang has Raved a bit' gets the prize for Statement of the Week. He's bound to have had a clubbing name, but if not, there's probably a formula for inventing them, along the lines of one's porn star name and opera diva name.
Cake: This was back in the early 90s, a simpler time, when women wore bunches and fairy wings and men wore army boots doused in multicoloured fluorescent spray paint.
My rave name was Captain Waveman.
I shall now retreat into a place where I can reveal no more.
I've finally worked out the significance of the title of your post. It took me a while...
Jack: Was this in reference to your hairstyle, or a tendency to start/join in with Mexican waves? Or an acknowledgment that you were on a different, erm, wavelength?
Billy: Nice work - good to know that these things aren't totally in vain!
I have never raved in my life - did I miss anything?
Am far to young and innocent to do the rave thing (prefering rock gigs) but longingly imagine the scene after watching the likes of Spaced and Human Traffic. Good episode that....Mike in pink lycra....mm....and Tyres, classic, "my work here is done".
Technopup? Awwww....

Plus ca change
I love Spaced. Only time I went clubbing was when entertaining clients and I hated it (Hippodrome, Leicester Square) so I walked out after an hour and got the train home. That means no clubbing name. But my current and previous cars all had names if that helps?
