Hiatus

Blogging is on a bit of a hiatus at the moment, while I grapple with the exciting but at the same time quite annoying reality of working 13 hours a day even when I'm SUPPOSED TO BE ON HOLIDAY.

(Hurrah for the tech industry boom, this time next year we'll all be millionaires, etc., but on the other hand, where did my free time go?)

In the meantime, if anyone reading is a professional writer (i.e. you derive all or part of your income from typing your own words into a machine), please head over to Miss-Cellany's blog as she wants your input into some research she's doing for her MA.

Also, if anyone reading isn't a professional writer, but fancies themselves as the next Neal Stephenson/Bruce Sterling/William Gibson, head over to the British Computer Society, which is running a short story competition for a 2,000-word work of fiction that 'must have a plot involving information technology, either in the past, present or in years to come.' Go to it!

The British Computer Society, what a great old-fashioned name...

I should probably join them, I don't work in IT but it is officially the sunniest day of the year so far and I'm inside footling around on the computer. Must... step... away... from... the... machine...

Hope your work eases up soon.

Hope the workload eases up. Seems here too that any illusion of a holiday (and being potential millionaire) is something far on the horizon for next year...

Annie: that's the only sensible thing to be doing on a sunny day. I just went outside and it was a big mistake - the whole of West London is full of wankers in huge sunglasses arguing with their spouses while pushing overheated toddlers around in buggies.

British Computer Society does sound quite Victorian, but that in itself is quite steampunky. It would be better if it would just rename itself the British Difference Engine Society and have done with it, mind you.

Yeah - I'm having the same problem - there's a lot of this old work business going around at the minute.

2,000 words though - s'not a lot really, is it? Perhaps I'll have a stab at writing a blogging-murder-mystery...

Ha - British Computer Society! In a previous life I was involved with a number of engineering institutions and my comments about the rep from the BCS are best kept under wraps....... But I'll look into their writing competition - sounds interesting.

Hope the work is well worth it, P - beats skivvying for nothing for my lot. Hey ho - it's nearly teatime.....
