Quote Of The Week

The pilot who safely landed the crashed plane at Heathrow yesterday isn't talking to the press, so the BBC went to talk to his neighbour instead. Her reaction:

"Mrs Firminger said she was not surprised Mr Burkill dealt with the situation so well. She said: 'He's absolutely gorgeous. He's all you imagine an airline pilot to be. He's very good looking.'"

If your plane ever gets hi-jacked by Johnny Depp, at least you'll know you're in safe hands.

i used to spout annoyingly like that about my pilot boyfriend, but in my defence there wasn't a whole lot more i could say about him. he was very good-looking, as you imagine pilots to be. unfortunately he was also very dull (as most pilots probably are when you think about it)

One of my brothers friends was unhappy. Told the mother of his kids he 'always wanted to be a pilot'. She told him he must do it. He did. Then left her. I wonder who's safe in his hands today.

I thought Scientologists were the only people who could really help out at a moment like this?

She's right though, he does look completely shaggable.

Pfff... pilots indeed... they're just glorified bus drivers.

He can hijack me anytime he likes...

To be fair to the neighbour, she did go on to say that he'd talked to her about her fear of flying and he'd been very helpful.

LC - what's happened to your blog? why don't you want me anymore?

Yeah, LC. Your blog's gone all Masonic.

Pilots should be good-looking, but not in a Johnny Depp way. Think more butch, Charlton Heston, Stewart Granger maybe. And they have to smoke pipes.

LC is right of course, are pilots just glorified bus drivers - but are generally much better looking than the average bus bloke!

I have it on good authority that LC's blog will be returning to a screen near you soon. He likes to keep the ladies (and Tim) on their toes.

Anyway, it turns out the less-handsome co-pilot was the real hero of the day, proving that you don't *have* to be good-looking to be able to fly a plane.

but it helps.

yes, the co-pilot who is somewhat inaptly (is that a word??) named: mr coward

i did laugh when i heard that neighbour though and it amused me no end that she was interviewed alongside her (presumably less good-looking) husband

UC: I'm glad I'm not the only person who found it very funny.

Goodness, I haven't heard it on the news here. All the news coverage is about the New England Patriots and how many Mormons there are in Nevada.

Am off to check out BBC news...

Pilots are always dashing. Bus drivers aren't.

Depp had a big hole in his jeans, revealing a bony knee, on a TV interview yesterday. Is that still the fashion?
What about Leonardo DC in the film Catch Me If You Can as your well-fit pilot in a crisis?
Which makes me wonder if the BA Captain was an imposter like Leo in said film and that's why he let the First Officer land the plane?

Pilots often have quite nice accents.

He does look a bit like a skinny George Clooney.

Was she commending his flying skills or had she received some other service from him?

You've got to love the BBC sometimes. The other day they had an article titled "I thought we we all going to die", said co-pilot. Surely it would only be news if he'd said it never for one minute crossed his mind that they might die?!
