Books Of Blogs Are Evil...

...except when they're for charity, then they're very good indeed.

That's why everyone should proceed immediately to shaggyblogstories.co.uk and spend £8.96 on Shaggy Blog Stories: A Collection of Amusing Tales from the UK Blogosphere, which Mike at Troubled Diva has heroically spent the whole week creating.

You get a lovely book of funny blog posts to keep for ever and ever, Comic Relief gets all the profits, and no one has to wear a red nose. Everyone wins!

Go to it!

Still not sure about 'amusing'.

But hey, great effort, and all for a good cause. Do all contributors get to have Lenny Henry dry hump them on live TV, or whatever they do on Comic Relief these days?

I hope not. Although I have been insufferable all day, squeaking 'I'm in a book! With Richard Herring!'.

In my mind this means I was actually somehow involved in This Morning With Richard Not Judy. Then I remember that I write about financial management software for a living.

Oh.

Hurrah!

I've just ordered a copy.

And with about £3.50 going to charity for each copy by my calculations, it makes a genuine contribution to the cause (unlike those 'buy soap powder for £4, and we'll give 5p to Comic Relief' promotions you see).

I look forward to reading it.

Which of your posts is included, P, or do we have to wait for the book to find out?

Thanks Sean, I don't think it will spoil anyone's enjoyment of the proper funny writing in the book if I reveal that it is this one.

I know, I shan't be giving up the day job.

Well, that post made me laugh first time around and just now too. So I guess it must be officially funny. Not that I'm the arbiter of comedy or anything, just that anything that makes you laugh is by definition funny.

Ah, that was a good post to pick, as I laughed out loud reading it at the time. And while I "LOL" frequently, I don't always _actually_ laugh in an audible way. It sounds a little stupid to cackle away at your computer. Though people have been known to walk into my office and ask what I was grinning at.

Bought the book and more power to 'em! What a great idea.

Yup - that's a goodie! Congratulations old girl.

I've always thought Comic Relief was a conspiracy to get Lenny Henry a night's work at least once every two years.

Thanks, P, for giving us an acceptable way to participate in this great cause - and it is a great cause.

At the RTS Awards this week, where Green Wing was yet again cruelly cheated of its just recognition by a vile BBC/ITV conspiracy, Richard Curtis was given a special award. I don't want to watch his plays or films or Comic Relief but he really has made some good comedy telly in the past and I wish I could vote for him to be PM rather than the sorry collection we will be presented with in due course.

This is nothing to do with this post, but let us know what you think of Freakonomics. Rob and I just finished it a couple of months ago and found it a fun read, with some (I thought mildly, Rob thought very) provocative ideas. My sister read it and found it even more provocative.

Sean McManus said...

The funniest thing about Freakonomics is how much they bang on about what a flipping genius the co-author is, even when you've already got through a chapter or two of ideas.

That post was one of my favourite.

Well-chosen. That is a very funny post indeed. I remember laughing like a drain when I first read it.
